Biking to a Tree

Had a wonderful MTB ride yesterday and it reiterated a couple personal revelations:

1 - Care about people not what they think.

2 - You never know why things happen or how they will work out for the best.

I was biking and biking and came to a sandy area in front of a massive tree and almost fell off my bike. Part of the tree was bending over enough that I could sit on it. As soon as I sat down I was overwhelmed with emotion, peace and understanding by being the presence of this huge tree. (reminded me of the Wendell Berry poem “peace of the wildthings”). I talked out loud and felt deep movement and readjustments inside of me including the revelations above. I am so blessed to have had the experience and I am so glad it is now a part of me. Looking back it was like I was fighting on the bike, racing, pushing and finally arrived at this place of peace. I would love to allow for more instances like that in my life.

THE PEACE OF WILD THINGS

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in teh night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in teh beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me teh day-blind stars
waiting witth their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
